Harry's Swastika Prompts Talk of EU Ban.

As if anyone needs more proof the European Union is ridiculous to its core, here's another gem from Brussells:
BRUSSELS, Belgium - The European Union may consider banning Nazi symbols in its 25 member nations after Britain's Prince Harry wore a swastika armband to a costume party, the bloc's top justice official said Monday.

Franco Frattini, the EU's justice and home affairs commissioner, said he was open to discussing the issue at a Jan. 27 meeting of EU justice ministers.

"It may be worth looking into the possibility of a total ban, a Europe-wide ban," his spokesman, Friso Roscam Abbing, told reporters Monday. "Commissioner Frattini shares the general feeling of opprobrium on the use of the swastika and other Nazi symbols."
My question for Commissioner Frattini: as long as we're sharing a "general feeling of opprobrium" towards the swastika, is there any hope you might find some room in that general feeling for other, more commonly displayed symbols of mass murder?

Like, perhaps, the hammer & sickle? Or the face of Che Guevarra?

Nazis = bad. Communists = trendy!

It'd be a difficult move, of course. Especially since communism never killed any Belgians. Let's be honest-- it's tough having hard feelings against an ideology that reserved most of its bloodletting for Slavs, Chinese, Hispanics, and Africans, right Commissioner?

Besides, that messy swastika is so ugly. Red, however, is so fetching!

Comments:
What I find perpetually astonishing is that the Communists are a legitimate political movement Over There. They get ministers/representatives/mayors/panjadrums elected over there all the time. Sometimes, like in I believe Spain right now, they are part of the ruling coalition.

I guess all it takes for a blood stained, totalitarian, oppressive ideology to make it in this crazy, mixed up world is a cadre of fawning intellectuals and a bit of luck.

Yes, it's always been terribly amusing to see the abuse heaped upon the NATIONAL SOCIALIST party by, well, you know, socialists. Stalin killed more people than Hitler, yet he's still Uncle Joe, while Adolph is the poster child for Hell. Maybe it's because he had a real mustache. Virile facial hair, that's the secret.
