IAEA Discovers Sun Rises In East, Is Warm.

VIENNA, Austria - The U.N. atomic watchdog agency has found evidence of secret nuclear experiments in Egypt that could be used in weapons programs, diplomats said Tuesday.

The diplomats told The Associated Press that most of the work was carried out in the 1980s and 1990s but said the International Atomic Energy Agency also was looking at evidence suggesting some work was performed as recently as a year ago.
Wait, Egypt has a nuclear program? Who woulda thunk it?

How about, oh, I dunno. . . everybody?

EVERY nation in the world with advanced technological capabilities has flirted with a nuclear weapons program. It's called "insurance." Of course Egpyt wants the Bomb, given the neighborhood. That doesn't make me happy about it, but I sure understand the motivation.

But even with the latest news, I'm not too worried about the Egyptian program. A lot of analysis over the years-- analysis much more skeptical about the good intentions of Egypt than the terminally clueless IAEA-- still concludes that Egypt never really got very far with their program. For more info, see this report put together by Anthony Cordesman, Middle East military expert (and a professor kind enough to give my crap writing an "A," many years ago).

I'm sure they're still continuing their work at some level, more than likely a low simmer. There have been reports that Egypt had a nice relationship with Pakistani nuke scientist A.Q. Khan. Still, nobody believes that Egypt has a program on the scale of, say, Iran's. A program, BTW, that the IAEA never seems too worried about.

Then again, if this revelation is news to the IAEA, I wonder what other things the IAEA has just learned?

What's next? Bears shit in the woods? The Pope is Catholic? Elijah Wood is Gay?

(Mad props, BTW, to Ace for finding that link. So true, so true. . . )

Comments:
Are you sure Elijah isn't just permanently stuck as a precocious 8 year old?

Mad props to you for working that link into your post.

With such style.

I love the "pictures" section. Favorite: "Elijah straddling male co-star = gay" "Elijah with feathers = gay"

"verdict: Elijah Woods is very very gay"

I love gay stuff.

Thanks Hans, I try my best to prove there's no such thing as a non-sequitur.
