Oh. My. God.

I have no qualms about eating meat.

I have no qualms about how our meat is prepared. Hell, at times, I've even been tempted to urge that the veal be prepared in utero, if it means more tender flesh.

That said, I just don't know if something like the E-Z Catch Harvester is, well, kosher.

Be sure to watch the video of the Harvester in action to get the full effect.

I don't need my chicken free-range, but this is a little over-the-top.

(H/T Jonah Goldberg)
I passed that video link yesterday to a friend, who said a colleague of his had worked in the poultry industry and felt that the EZ Catch Harvester was probably more humane than past methods, which involved human workers grabbing the chickens and stuffing them into coops. Problem was, the chickens would go nuts and peck the workers, so the workers would simply grab a chicken, punch it in the head to stun it, then chuck it in the coop.

So tell me, would you rather be punched in the head or manhandled by dozens of rapidly rotating 12" rubber fingers? Uh, on second thought, don't answer that...
Only tangentially related, if even that, but after I saw the video, my first thought was of an old WKRP in Cincinnati episode, the one with the turkeys.
My video had sound, so I promptly ran all the clucking through Babelfish's on-line Chicken-to-English translator, and apparently what the chickens were saying was, "WHAT THE . . . WHAT THE . . . WHAT THE . . . WHAT THE . . . WHAT THE . . . WHAT THE . . . WHAT THE . . . WHAT THE FUCK??"

True story.
That's just...wow.
Frankly, I think anything you do to a chicken is no more than they deserve. They are too dumb and annoying to warrant any consideration from me. I think they ought slaughter chickens through the means of enormous Thunderdome-style cockfights. Ten thousand roosters enter, one rooster leaves.
Wow. While it LOOKS disturbing, I guess is is as humane as any way poultry farms handle chickens. Chickens really are filthy and disgusting creatures.
